About excursion
Two-day journey along the Vidzeme coast – from a coffee roastery to the seashore, from local producers to chefs. A true harvest of flavors.
Day 1. Morning
The tasting tour begins with excellent morning coffee at a family coffee roastery, where you will learn how coffee beans are grown, harvested, and processed before reaching the roastery. You will explore the roasting process and taste coffees from different regions and roasts to discover their unique flavor nuances. Next, experience the unforgettable taste of organic cheese. The small dairy’s unique cheeses have won recognition in the world’s largest food evaluation system, British Great Taste, for seven consecutive years, receiving top marks each year. The tasting journey continues to a coastal village where, already in the 17th century, fishermen caught lamprey in the Gauja River. We will visit an old fishing farm that has been processing lamprey for generations. After a walk through the coastal pine forests and along the Baltic Sea shore, enjoy a tasting lunch and a fish cooking masterclass with a chef renowned for aromatic fish soups, smoked fish, grilled and baked fish dishes, and refined fish appetizers. The high-quality fish products have also been praised by the President of Latvia.
Afternoon
After the walk along the pine forests and the Baltic Sea shore, continue the flavor adventure with a tasting lunch and a fish cooking masterclass with the chef. Visit the Vidzeme coastal artisans, who are an important part of local culture and identity, keeping traditional skills alive and creating new, modern works inspired by coastal traditions. Check in at the hotel, dinner (not included), and enjoy the sunset over the Baltic Sea (weather permitting).
Day 2. Morning
Breakfast. Tea and jam tasting at an organic farm growing vegetables, berries, fruits, and teas. Homemade preserves, juices, syrups, and jams are made according to traditional and modern recipes. Taste the farm’s organic products, which won the Silver award in the 2020 “Novada Garšas” competition. You can also see a retro auto-moto collection and historic ethnographic items in the century-old barn. Next, enjoy a revitalizing coastal walk and a visit to the Salacgrīva Regional Museum, with stories about Salacgrīva, fishing, and fishermen on the Northern Vidzeme coast, traditional lamprey fishing with boats, and local history. Discover Latvian bread, its natural ingredients, and the love and joy of baking delicious treats! Participate in a bread-baking workshop and tasting, and purchase various types of rye bread, cakes, cookies, and other pastries.
Afternoon
Lunch with a steak tasting at a restaurant with historic charm, where classic values meet modern elements in a seamless experience. The steak restaurant is a family business that raises beef cattle and provides a complete farm-to-table cycle. On the way home, enjoy a tasting of homemade berry wines. Here you can taste not only aromatic berry wines but also apple and currant distillates and infusions capturing the scents and flavors of Vidzeme’s summer meadows.
